The theme of this surrealistic painting is "our time".
Smartphone is a convenient electronic gadget of our generation, so we always focus on it and ignore other things in the world. A man with a broken head represents us who are addicted to smartphone uncontrollably; the animals represent our parents and other creatures in the world that have no idea on what we are doing or cannot stop us.
When encountering someone being badly injured, Hongkongers may first take photos and upload them to Facebook or Twitter before calling an ambulance. It is undoubtedly a ruthless act which should be stopped.
Next, I want to question if press freedom exists in Hong Kong under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party. The gray and black-dotted background represents the darkness of China; the red man in the middle and in the front of the Red Army represents the Communist Party dominating Hong Kong with increased influences; the other images express that the shrinking press freedom in Hong Kong is threatened by the Communist Party. We, Hongkongers, have to save ourselves. I believe the final victory will belong to the one who keeps pursuing and fighting for freedom and democracy.

When somebody is badly injured and there is a need to call the ambulance, most of the people in HK will first take photos, upload the photo to facebook or twitter before they call an ambulance. I think this kind of action is ruthless and should be stopped. The style of this painting is surrealism. |
